Thanks for the great articles. Everything that I have read has been benificial to me. Being possitive is hard to do in this day and age, but we can overcome the negitive. In order to serve your customers with the service they need, it is key to be patient, considering everyone knows a mechanic and can get the part cheeper. Quality work at a fair price is what customers want, atleast the ones that we want.

Thanks George, i enjoyed you article, we need to be reminded often of what business we are in, marketing is so much more than hoping the back end does good enough to get referrals. I have become very aware of our local dealers that are marketing in the same way and to the same clients as we have. The new reality is definitely a different one from the old.

Hello.
I appreciate your article. I was looking for work, I have a shop space of my own. I am fifty two years old. Most of my life I have not worked on cars but I love it and have been studying for an A-8, I have an I&M (ASE) cert and several Ford certificates; I do maintenance and repair on my employers vehicles as well as for a non-profit group, friends and family.
I saw jobs offered to techs in the range of 60,000 dollars per year. That must be for the guy who is on top of the education and talented as well; has been at it forever.
I imagine that it is also becoming somewhat of an employee's market. If you are solely a business owner and realize how dedicated the tech must be to become knowlegeable; realize the monetary cost to the tech for his education and his tools then you pay him more or look for less expensive help - like the kind without the education.
